I’ve worked on a lot of websites at this point.
Big ones.
Small business sites.
Older WordPress builds.
Brand new redesigns.
And honestly, one thing I keep noticing is this:
A lot of websites try way too hard.
Too many animations.
Too many popups.
Too many things moving around.
Too much clutter.
Sometimes the website looks impressive for a few seconds…
But it’s confusing to actually use.
Most people visit a website for a simple reason.
They want to:
- learn something
- find a service
- contact someone
- buy something
- or figure out if they trust the business
That’s it.
If the site is slow, cluttered, or hard to navigate, people leave fast.
Simple websites usually work better
I think simple websites usually work better because they focus on clarity.
Clear text.
Clear navigation.
Clear calls to action.
Fast loading.
Mobile friendly layouts.
A website doesn’t need to feel empty or boring.
It should still look polished and modern.
But good design is usually more about removing problems than adding more things.
Small improvements can change everything
Some of the best improvements I make on websites are actually small changes:
Better spacing.
Cleaner structure.
Faster images.
Simpler navigation.
Removing things people don’t use.
Small fixes can completely change how a site feels.
At the end of the day, most people don’t remember fancy effects.
They remember whether the website was easy to use.
